Ninety minutes from the city, the Hajar Mountains rise grey-blue out of the desert and everything changes: the air cools, the roads curve, and the turquoise water of Hatta Dam appears between the peaks. This is the UAE most visitors never discover.
The day mixes soft adventure and heritage — kayaking on the dam's still water, the restored 18th-century Hatta Heritage Village, mountain viewpoints, and honey and pottery stops along the way. A completely different postcard from the dunes.

Good to know
Is Hatta good for families with kids?
Very — kayaking, easy walks and the heritage village keep all ages busy, and the drive itself is beautiful.
Do I need my passport for Hatta?
Carry your passport or Emirates ID — the road passes near the Oman border and spot checks can happen, though tourists are almost never stopped.
When is the best season for Hatta?
October to April is ideal — mountain air is cool and the dam water is at its bluest. Summer visits start early to beat the heat.
